Course Description

This course is designed specifically for public procurement professionals and those doing business in California. The various laws associated with procurement and contracting in the public sector will be covered, including Public Contract Code Chapter 2.1. While California procurement regulations are similar to those of other states, there are specific requirements that its procurement workforce needs to be aware of. 

Online Format

This course is delivered entirely online and can be completed at a pace determined by the student. A variety of learning methods will be used, including the following:

  • Instructional videos on key concepts
  • Reading assignments on specific procurement topics
  • Research on leading procurement practices
  • Writing assignments consisting of short topical papers
  • Online examinations focusing on key concepts

Course Objectives 

The objective of this course is to introduce students to methods of public procurement in California. Students will learn about the Code requirements for the procurement of materials, goods, services, and construction.

At the conclusion of the course, participants should be able to:

  • Acquire an understanding of the legislative intent of the Public Contract Code
  • Consider the nuances of competitive procurement in California
  • Identify key terminology associated with procurement and contracting in California
  • Gain an appreciation for the flexibility allowed by the Public Contract Code
